The Speaker of the Kiambu County Assembly, Hon. Charles Murungaru Thiong’o, has officially welcomed Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) back from recess as the House reconvened for Part Five of the Fourth Session of the Third Assembly.
In his address, delivered at the Assembly chambers on Tuesday, Hon. Thiong’o commended the members for their continued dedication to legislative service and urged them to approach the final stretch of the session with renewed focus and commitment.
“This short recess has given members time to rest, reconnect with their families, and engage their electorates. Now, as we resume, I urge everyone to give their best as we conclude the year’s legislative business,” the Speaker said.
Tribute to the Late Raila Odinga
Hon. Thiong’o took a solemn moment to mourn the passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a great son of Kenya and a steadfast defender of democracy and devolution.
He extended heartfelt condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, Rosemary Odinga, Raila Junior, Hon. Winnie Odinga, and the entire Odinga family, noting that Raila’s lifelong dedication to justice, equality, and good governance remains an enduring legacy for the nation.
“Rt. Hon. Odinga’s contribution to our country’s democracy will forever be remembered. His courage, resilience, and vision for a united Kenya continue to inspire generations,” said Thiong’o.
Focus on Pending Legislative Work
Turning to Assembly business, the Speaker reminded members that the current session is short, with the House expected to adjourn for the long recess in early December. He directed committees to move with urgency in clearing pending work before the break.
Among the key items awaiting action are petitions before various committees, unresponded statements, and Auditor-General’s reports due for tabling by the County Public Investment and Accounts Committee (PIAC).
Hon. Thiong’o also emphasized the need for committee chairpersons to fast-track pending reports and ensure they are tabled for debate and approval before the session ends.
Bills Awaiting Introduction
The Speaker further revealed that the Assembly’s legislative calendar remains busy, with several key bills already under publication at the Government Printer.
The upcoming bills include:
- Kiambu County Early Childhood Development Education Bill, 2025
- Kiambu County Investment Corporation Bill, 2025
- Kiambu County Vocational Education and Training Institutions Bill, 2025
- Kiambu County Provision of Sanitary Towels Bill, 2025
- Kiambu County Agroecology Development Bill, 2025
- Kiambu County Agriculture Sector Coordination Committee Bill, 2025
- Kiambu County Fire and Rescue Services Bill, 2025
He instructed the Office of the Clerk to follow up with the Government Printer to ensure timely publication and introduction of these bills for the first reading.
Assembly’s Commitment to Deliver
Speaker Thiong’o reaffirmed his confidence in the Assembly’s ability to deliver meaningful legislative outcomes that directly benefit Kiambu residents.
“I have full confidence in the Honourable Members. Let us work together to ensure that every pending bill, report, and statement is concluded. The people of Kiambu expect results, and we must not let them down,” he said.
As the Assembly resumes business, all eyes are now on the committees and members to ensure that legislative promises translate into tangible impact before the year closes.
