Kiambu County government has intensified efforts to regulate alcohol sales, emphasizing strict adherence to licensing rules while safeguarding the public from harassment during inspections.
During a meeting held at Juja Subcounty offices, Director of Alcoholic Drinks Control, Michael Kang’ethe, instructed members of the Ward Alcoholic Drinks Regulation Committees to conduct inspections professionally, ensuring that licensed establishments and the public are treated respectfully.
Kang’ethe warned that any licensee found violating liquor laws after receiving a license risks cancellation and may be barred from obtaining future licenses.
The official also reiterated that selling traditional brews such as muratina in bars is illegal under the Kiambu County Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, 2024, except for customary purposes. Individuals wishing to commercially produce muratina must apply for a manufacturer’s license and undergo vetting by the County government.
The move aims to streamline alcohol regulation, promote responsible consumption, and ensure compliance while protecting law-abiding businesses and the public.
