Kiambu county drills 300-metre borehole in Limuru

Residents of Kabuku Water Project in Tigoni Ngecha Ward, Limuru, have received a major boost after Kiambu County Government completed a new high-yield borehole to address persistent water shortages.

The 300-metre-deep borehole, drilled by the Department of Water, Environment, Energy and Natural Resources, produces 28,000 litres of water per hour. Drilling began on December 28, 2025, and was completed within eight days.

County Geologist Richard Munge Muthua and Water Services Coordinator Isaac Ndirangu supervised test pumping to confirm the yield.

Project chairman John Njoroge Mburu said the borehole will ease pressure on residents who have relied on the Karura River, 2.5 kilometres away. Treasurer Rev. Steve Jessee Githiiri said the project will serve over 1,500 homes, with plans to ensure fair distribution.
