Thogoto Village in Gati Iguru Sub-Location, Ngoliba, is benefiting from climate-smart farming initiatives as Kiambu County’s Climate Change Unit continues to implement the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLOCA) programme.
The semi-arid village faces significant surface runoff, especially in steep areas. FLLOCA is addressing this by constructing retention ditches to capture rainwater during the wet season, storing it for use in irrigation during dry spells. A total of two kilometers of retention ditches are being dug in Ngoliba.
Local farmer Samuel Kang’ethe Mutiso, who owns four acres of arable land, has already seen positive results. He has dug a fish pond on his farm, planning to use the water from the ditches for fish farming and crop irrigation.
Farmers in the area have expressed gratitude to Governor Wamatangi and the World Bank for supporting FLLOCA, noting that the initiative is helping communities adapt to climate change while improving agricultural productivity and livelihoods.
