Kiambu County graduates new cohort of Community Health Promoters after intensive maternal and newborn care training

Thika was alive with colour and celebration as Kiambu County, in partnership with AIC Kijabe Hospital, hosted the graduation of a newly trained group of Community Health Promoters (CHPs).

The cohort has undergone comprehensive training in maternal and newborn health, basic health modules, and psychological first aid skills that the county says are essential in strengthening healthcare delivery at the community level.

Speaking during the ceremony, County Director of Public Health and Sanitation Teresia Njoroge praised the dedication shown by the trainees, noting that CHPs remain the backbone of community health systems. She urged them to step into their new roles as frontline champions who will support households both medically and emotionally.

Ms Njoroge added that the county is committed to empowering CHPs as part of its broader strategy to improve primary healthcare access and reduce preventable illnesses. The graduates are expected to play a key role in bridging critical gaps in early health interventions, especially for mothers and newborns.
