Leaders in Kiambu County have launched the construction of the Thindigua–Laurette–Windsor Highway Road project, with a firm commitment that local youth will be given first priority in employment opportunities.
Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka, who presided over the launch, said the inclusion of young people was central to his development agenda.
“We agreed with the contractor that the labor works would be undertaken by the youth from this area. This is more than just a road; it is a commitment to empowering our young people with opportunities that restore hope and dignity,” Waithaka said.
For many young residents, the project is more than a job, it represents dignity, stability, and a brighter tomorrow. George Mwangi, one of the first recruits, said: “For years, we have struggled to find work. Being absorbed into this project gives us not only income but also dignity. It feels like a door to our future has finally opened.”
Another youth, Nicole Njeri, echoed the sentiment, noting that the opportunity will also equip them with valuable skills: “We are not only getting jobs but also learning. This kind of experience prepares us for other opportunities in life. For me, this is the beginning of a brighter tomorrow.”
The project, implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and funded through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF), will not only improve infrastructure but also uplift the community.
Residents say the new road is expected to reduce transport costs, ease movement, boost productivity, and attract investors. Beyond Thindigua, the project signals a fresh wave of development for Kiambu Town.
MP Waithaka further revealed that the long-awaited expansion of Kiambu Road into a dual carriageway will begin soon, a development he termed crucial for unlocking the region’s economic potential.
“My leadership remains committed to delivering meaningful development that touches the lives of our people. Yangu ni Kazi Tu,” he reaffirmed.
For now, as heavy machinery roars to life, the dusty stretch of Thindigua is slowly being transformed into a symbol of hope, progress, and youth empowerment in Kiambu County.
