Residents of Ngewa Ward in Githunguri Sub-County are set to benefit from improved transport following steady progress in the construction of Ngiriri Road, a key infrastructure project being implemented by the Kiambu County Government.
According to the County Department of Roads, Transport, Public Works and Utilities, grading works on the road are nearing completion, paving the way for the next phase of development. The upcoming stage will involve gravelling to create a durable, all-weather surface, alongside the installation of a drainage system to address long-standing challenges caused by poor water flow.
County officials say the drainage works are a critical component of the project, aimed at ensuring the road remains passable throughout the year, even during heavy rains that have previously disrupted movement in the area.
An inspection exercise led by Acting Roads Chief Officer Julie Waweru brought together a team of engineers and county officers to assess the progress and quality of works on site. Among those present was Director Engineer Joseph Kamau, who is overseeing technical aspects of the project.
The inspection underscored the county’s commitment to ensuring that infrastructure projects meet required standards and are delivered within set timelines. Officials noted that close supervision is key to guaranteeing value for public resources and delivering long-lasting solutions.
Once complete, Ngiriri Road is expected to significantly improve mobility within the area by easing both pedestrian and vehicular movement. Residents have for years faced challenges accessing key services due to poor road conditions, especially during rainy seasons when the road becomes difficult to use.
The improved road network is also expected to enhance economic activity by linking residents to nearby markets, schools, and essential services. Local leaders say the project will open up the area to new opportunities, making it easier for farmers and traders to transport goods.
Residents have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the upgraded road will reduce travel time and improve connectivity within Ngewa Ward and neighbouring areas.
