Kiambu County has officially opened 109 newly constructed Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres. This initiative, led by Governor Kimani Wamatangi, aims to enhance access to quality education for children across the county.
The inauguration of these centers marks a milestone in Kiambu’s efforts to improve educational infrastructure and resources. Speaking at the launch event at Gitiha ECDE Centre in Githiga Ward, Githunguri Sub-County, Governor Wamatangi highlighted the county’s dedication to providing a solid educational foundation for every child.
“Today, with the commissioning of 109 brand-new ECDE centers spread across the county, we mark a new beginning for a sector that has previously suffered from neglect and lack of support,” said Wamatangi. “Research shows that early childhood education plays a critical role in shaping a child’s lifelong approach to learning. We’ve prioritized upgrading ECDE centers to provide our youngest learners with a nurturing and stimulating environment.”
The centers, equipped with modern amenities such as PP1 and PP2 classrooms, administrative offices, separate restrooms, and well-equipped play areas, are designed to provide a conducive learning environment.
The second phase of the project, which is currently underway, will see 138 additional centers completed by December.
Strategically located throughout Kiambu, these new centers are expected to significantly improve enrollment rates and enhance early childhood education outcomes.
Governor Wamatangi’s initiatives extend beyond infrastructure improvement. He has also implemented a comprehensive feeding program to increase school attendance and improve learning outcomes. Every morning, children receive a nutritious meal, which has already led to a significant increase in enrollment.
The new ECDE centers are part of a broader effort by the Kiambu County government to enhance the overall education system.
