Kiambu County steps up preparations for KSh 1.6 billion urban projects under Kenya Urban Support Programme Two

Kiambu County has intensified preparations ahead of the Second Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP 2) Annual Performance Assessment (APA 2), as it positions itself to unlock KSh 1.6 billion in urban development funding.

A delegation from the State Department of Housing and Urban Development (SDHUD), led by National Director and KUSP 2 Coordinator Planner Lilian Kieni, paid a courtesy call to Chief Officer for Land, Housing, Physical Planning and Municipalities, Mr. Martin Kang’iri. The team, accompanied by Mr. Nick Mbwika from the Council of Governors, held a high-level consultative meeting with county officials.

The session focused on reviewing the APA 2 scorecard, with officials outlining key performance indicators and compliance benchmarks that will determine the county’s eligibility for funding.

If approved, the funds will support transformative projects across Kiambu’s municipalities, including road upgrades, development of Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) systems, construction of modern bus parks and parking facilities, and installation of solar street lighting.

The programme also targets green parks and recreational spaces, improved stormwater drainage, strengthened waste management systems, and enhanced fire and disaster response infrastructure.

County officials reaffirmed their commitment to meeting national urban governance standards and positioning Kiambu’s municipalities as hubs of economic growth, safety, and sustainable development.
