Kiambu county to open 32 new hospitals by December 2025 in Ksh2.6 billion health infrastructure boost

Kiambu County is on track to launch 32 new hospitals by December 2025, as part of a Ksh2.6 billion investment aimed at improving healthcare access and delivery across the region.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi announced that the health facilities are nearing completion, with only equipment installation remaining before they are operational. He made the remarks during a recent inspection tour of the upcoming hospitals in several sub-counties, including Thogoto Level Four Hospital and Gathiga, Gitaru, Uthiru, Gichuru, and Ndeiya Level Three hospitals.

Speaking on the progress, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on its health agenda.

“Within those two years we’ve been in office, we made it our business to ensure that we’ve completed those health facilities. Today, if you go to Kikuyu Hospital in Thika, it’s 95% complete, only awaiting a little extension to accommodate the doctors and other staff who will be working there, and the hospital will open,” Wamatangi stated.

The upcoming health centres are strategically spread across Kiambu’s sub-counties to ensure equitable access to both basic and specialized care. The facilities include a mix of Level Three and Level Four hospitals, designed to bring essential medical services closer to communities that have historically struggled with access due to distance and overcrowded public hospitals.

Once completed, the hospitals are expected to ease pressure on existing facilities and serve thousands of residents who often travel long distances for treatment. The rollout marks one of the most ambitious healthcare expansion efforts in the region.

Governor Wamatangi emphasized that healthcare remains a top priority for his government, noting that this infrastructure will help bridge longstanding service gaps and improve health outcomes for Kiambu residents.
