Kiambu County has marked a significant legislative milestone after Governor H.E. Kimani Wamatangi officially assented to two key Bills aimed at strengthening early childhood education and promoting sustainable agricultural practices across the county.
The two Billsthe Kiambu County ECDE Bill 2025 and the Kiambu County Agro-Ecology Development Bill 2025were passed by the County Assembly before being signed into law by the Governor in a move expected to shape service delivery in the education and agriculture sectors.
The ECDE Act introduces a structured legal framework to guide early childhood education within the county. It seeks to safeguard the progress made in the sector over the years while also enhancing the welfare of ECDE teachers through improved terms of service. The law is expected to standardize learning conditions, improve management of ECDE centres, and strengthen the foundation of early learning for children across Kiambu.
On the other hand, the Agro-Ecology Development Act focuses on promoting environmentally friendly farming practices while discouraging the use of harmful agricultural chemicals that have been linked to rising cases of lifestyle-related illnesses. The law encourages farmers to adopt organic and sustainable farming methods aimed at protecting both public health and the environment while maintaining agricultural productivity.
Speaking after assenting to the Bills, Governor Wamatangi noted that the new laws reflect the county’s commitment to progressive development and long-term sustainability. He emphasized that investing in education and responsible agriculture remains key to improving livelihoods and strengthening the local economy.
The County Government has also lauded the County Assembly for its role in advancing legislative reforms, noting that Kiambu has continued to position itself as one of the most active counties in law-making.
According to county leadership, the Assembly has enacted over 20 Bills into law covering various sectors including education, agriculture, trade, infrastructure, and public service delivery. The continued collaboration between the executive and the legislature has been highlighted as a key driver of development in the county.
Governor Wamatangi further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rolling out more people-centered policies, stating that the focus remains on delivering practical solutions that directly benefit residents at the grassroots level.
He added that the county will continue to pursue reforms aimed at improving service delivery, boosting agricultural productivity, and strengthening the education sector to ensure long-term socio-economic growth.
As Kiambu continues to expand its legislative footprint, attention now turns to the implementation of the newly enacted laws and their impact on communities across the county.
