Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korean Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Kang Hyung-shik, to strengthen agricultural development in the county through technology transfer and skills exchange.
The partnership aims to bring cutting-edge farming innovations and expertise closer to local farmers, helping them improve productivity and profitability.
Governor Wamatangi said the collaboration, anchored through the Korea Program on International Agriculture (KOPIA) Kenya Centre in Muguga, will equip farmers with practical knowledge to increase yields and modernize their operations.
“Agriculture remains the backbone of Kiambu’s economy, contributing over 60% of our Gross County Product,” Wamatangi said. “This partnership with Korea will empower our farmers with modern tools and technologies to enhance food security and rural incomes.”
The Governor emphasized that small-scale farmers, who make up the majority of Kiambu’s agricultural sector, will benefit directly from the programme through training, research, and access to improved farming techniques.
The MoU marks a new phase in the county’s efforts to transform agriculture into a modern, sustainable, and technology-driven enterprise capable of meeting both local and export market demands.
