Kiambu Governor Wamatangi accuses Kiambu MPs of orchestrating attacks after refusing to sanction land grabs and tender irregularities

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has accused a section of Members of Parliament from the county of orchestrating political attacks and spreading propaganda against his administration after he declined to approve alleged illegal land grabs and inflated tenders.

Speaking in Witeithi, Juja, and Kalimoni Wards on Wednesday while issuing bursary cheques to beneficiaries of the county’s scholarship program, Wamatangi said the unrelenting attacks on his leadership were politically motivated and driven by vested interests.

According to the governor, shortly after taking office, several county leaders approached him demanding favors including the allocation of public land and access to tenders at exaggerated prices.

“When I refused to cooperate with them, they resorted to political blackmail and propaganda. Their aim is to have a governor they can arm-twist to serve their selfish interests,” Wamatangi told residents.

He alleged that after failing to influence his decisions, the group hatched a plan to impeach him, but when the attempt collapsed, they turned to a campaign of falsehoods aimed at tarnishing his image.

The governor claimed that some MPs have even gone as far as involving investigative agencies and spreading reports of a fake health crisis in the county to incite public outrage.

“The recent claims of baby deaths in our hospitals were politically sponsored to create the impression that the county health system has collapsed. It’s part of their propaganda because I refused to allow them to loot public funds,” Wamatangi said.

He insisted that his administration remains committed to prudent use of public resources, transparency, and service delivery to Kiambu residents despite what he described as “deliberate distractions” from political opponents.

Wamatangi also assured residents that his government will continue supporting needy students through bursaries and scholarships, emphasizing that education remains a key priority for his administration.
