Kiambu County has renewed its commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector through a major farmer support initiative in Githiga. The exercise, led by Governor Kimani Wamatangi and the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation and Cooperatives, saw thousands of residents receive free piglets, kienyeji chicks, avocado seedlings, fertiliser and maize seeds.
County officials said the programme is part of ongoing efforts to re-energise farming in the region, noting that Githiga has long played a vital role in feeding households, supporting the local economy and contributing to Kenya’s agricultural output.
The county believes that providing farmers with improved inputs and modern agricultural support will help increase productivity, stabilise incomes and strengthen food security across Kiambu.
The Department reaffirmed that the initiative aligns with the county’s broader agricultural transformation agenda aimed at empowering farmers and restoring Kiambu’s status as a food-production powerhouse.
