The Kiambu Law Courts personnel, along with other courts across the country, observed a National Mourning and Remembrance Day in honor of Late Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti.
Tragically, Magistrate Kivuti lost her life due to extensive injuries sustained during an open gun attack in court last week at the Makadara Law Courts.
Lady Justice Abigail Mshila led the prayers, attended by judicial officers and staff, as they gathered to remember their esteemed colleague.
Lady Justice Mshila, who had worked with Magistrate Kivuti at Kiambu Law Courts in 2013, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. She encouraged her colleagues to find solace in prayer during this difficult and traumatic time.
Chief Justice Martha Koome, President of the Supreme Court, declared a National Prayer and Mourning Day, promising that Kivuti’s death would not be in vain.
Immediate measures are being implemented to enhance safety and security at court premises for judges, judicial officers, judiciary staff, court users, and the general public
Additionally, Chief Justice Koome announced that judicial services would no longer be rendered in makeshift structures to improve safety.
She has called upon Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to enhance security measures in the courts.
Kivuti’s legacy as a brave officer who died protecting the law will be honored by our continued commitment to providing dedicated and composed services to the public.
