Kiambu MP secures Romania ICT scholarships for youth

Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has announced a new scholarship opportunity for local youth following a high-level meeting with Romania’s Ambassador to Kenya at the ICT Jitume Hub in Ndumberi.

The Romanian envoy, Gentiana Serbu, toured the facility alongside officials from the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy and lauded the large number of young people currently undergoing digital skills training at the hub.

During the engagement, the Ambassador highlighted Romania’s ICT growth journey, noting that the sector contributes about 10 per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product underscoring the transformative power of technology in national development.

Waithaka revealed that the Romanian Embassy has committed to offering scholarships to young people from Kiambu Constituency to pursue ICT studies in Romania. The partnership will also explore broader collaboration in digital skills development and technology exchange.

Also present at the meeting were Victor Gansac, CEO of SAFETec described as Romania’s largest cybersecurity firm and Gabriel Aldea, General Manager of AG Global Technology.

The development marks a significant boost for youth empowerment efforts in Kiambu Town, with leaders expressing optimism that international partnerships will strengthen the local digital ecosystem and equip young people with globally competitive ICT skills.
