Kiambu, Nairobi lead as 0ver 90,000 Kenyans register as new voters in ongoing IEBC drive

More than 90,000 Kenyans have been registered as new voters in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon said the figures reflect growing civic participation as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election, adding that the data collected will form a strong foundation for credible polls.

Statistics show Kiambu County recorded 9,917 new registrations and 1,766 transfers, placing it second after Nairobi County, which leads with 16,512 new registrations and 5,388 transfers. Other high-performing counties include Machakos, Mombasa, Meru, and Murang’a.

“The Commission notes steady progress as more citizens take advantage of this opportunity to register, transfer, or update their details,” Ethekon said.

The exercise, which began on September 29, 2025, is ongoing across all 290 constituency offices, except for 24 electoral areas where by-elections are set for November 27, 2025.

However, voter registration in arid and semi-arid regions such as Tana River, Wajir, Mandera, and Isiolo remains minimal.

Ethekon urged political parties, religious leaders, and civil society groups to mobilize eligible citizens to register early, emphasizing that inclusivity and participation are key pillars of democracy.

“The Commission reaffirms its unwavering commitment to ensuring that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to shape the country’s democratic future,” he added.
