The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised Kenyans in several regions to prepare for rains, chilly weather, and strong winds over the next five days.
Coastal towns and parts of Eastern and Northern Kenya will also experience strong southerly to south-easterly winds, with speeds expected to exceed 25 knots in Machakos, Kitui, and Lodwar.
“Most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry. Rainfall is expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast,” the department said.
Counties including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi are expected to experience sunny mornings, with showers in the afternoons until Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be largely sunny, while nights will remain cloudy. Temperatures in these regions will range from 7°C to 26°C.
In the Lake Region, counties such as Kisumu, Kakamega, Kisii, Kericho, Nandi, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia will receive rain both during the day and night until Saturday. Temperatures will vary between 10°C and 27°C.
The Coast will see sunny intervals during the day and cloudy nights. Maximum temperatures are forecast at 30°C, with lows of 20°C in Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and Tana River.
Daylong sunshine will dominate Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, with maximum temperatures hitting 31°C and lows of 11°C. Cloudy nights are also expected in these counties.
Turkana and Samburu will experience showers and thunderstorms throughout the week, with daytime highs of 32°C and lows of 11°C. Meanwhile, the northern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will remain hot and sunny, recording highs of 36°C and minimum temperatures of 14°C.
The department has urged residents in affected regions to remain cautious, especially in areas likely to experience strong winds and afternoon showers.
