A tragic road accident on Thika Road in Juja claimed the life of Kiambu Nominated MCA Ezra Kabuga Kihara on Sunday morning. The incident happened near Mangu High School as the lawmaker was travelling from Nairobi to Thika town.
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi confirmed the fatal accident through his communications team and expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “It is with a heavy heart that I received the devastating news of the passing of our esteemed nominated Member of County Assembly, Hon. Ezra Kabuga Kihara,” Governor Wamatangi wrote in a Facebook post. “His untimely death is a significant loss for our county, as he was a young, dedicated legislator with a bright future ahead.”
According to a police report, Mr. Kabugi died when his Subaru Forester crashed into the rear of an Isuzu FRR lorry. The crash impact caused the Forester to burst into flames, and Kabugi died at the scene from his injuries. Authorities transferred his body to Montezuma Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination. They towed both vehicles to a local police station for further investigation.
Governor Wamatangi described Kabugi as a vibrant and promising leader committed to serving Kiambu. “His work in the County Assembly and in Kiambu will be remembered as a testament to his commitment to making a difference. He was a friendly and kind person, always driven to improve the lives of those around him,” he added.
President William Ruto also conveyed his condolences, stating, “We are saddened by the loss of Hon. Ezra Kihara, Nominated MCA at the Kiambu County Assembly. He was a dedicated and loyal member of UDA. His skills in party politics were exemplary, and he played a crucial role as the Kiambu County returning officer during the party primaries in 2022. As a result of his outstanding leadership capabilities, he was nominated as an MCA, and his contribution will be dearly missed. Recently, he joined the UDA National Elections Board technical team for grassroots elections.”
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed his sorrow, saying, “It is with profound sorrow that I learnt of the passing of Hon. Ezra Kihara, Nominated MCA, Kiambu County. He was a brilliant, prolific, and promising young leader whose focus was serving the People and the Nation, Kenya. It was only yesterday that I had fruitful discussions with him during a meeting with fellow County MCAs when they called on me for an update on the progress of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill, 2024. He has been an architect and a pillar of the UDA Party, serving with utmost distinction. We have lost a visionary leader through a road accident. May God grant the family, friends, and colleagues of Hon. Kihara the strength to come to terms with this tragic loss.”
The Kiambu County Assembly also released a statement mourning their colleague, saying, “We share in your sorrow and honor his memory, which will live on in the legacy he leaves behind. On behalf of my family, the County Government of Kiambu, and the great people of Kiambu, I urge Hon. Kabuga’s family and the County Assembly to accept our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences.”
