The Kiambu County Government has urged property owners to pay their land rates on time, saying the revenue remains critical in financing essential public services across the county.
In a statement, the county administration noted that land rates form a key pillar of its locally generated revenue, supporting road maintenance, street lighting, waste management, drainage improvement and enhanced security within neighbourhoods.
Officials said timely payment will not only improve infrastructure but also guarantee better public services and sustainable development. Property owners were further cautioned that failure to comply could attract penalties and possible legal enforcement measures.
The appeal comes as the county intensifies efforts to strengthen service delivery while rallying residents to take part in development initiatives under the banner of collective responsibility.
According to the county, consistent payment of land rates enables smoother implementation of projects that directly impact households and businesses. Roads remain passable, garbage is collected on time, drainage systems are maintained and public spaces are kept orderly.
The administration emphasised that meeting tax obligations is not just a legal requirement but a civic duty that contributes to building a cleaner, safer and more organised municipality.
At the same time, the county’s Department of Water, Environment, Energy and Natural Resources commended residents who recently participated in a clean-up exercise held in various parts of the county.
The department, under the leadership of Governor Kimani Wamatangi, said the initiative demonstrated a growing partnership between wananchi and their government in safeguarding the environment.
Officials said the exercise went beyond waste collection, describing it as a deliberate step towards cultivating civic pride, environmental responsibility and respect for shared public spaces.
They noted that a clean environment directly supports public health, which in turn underpins economic growth and overall community well-being.
The county has now called on residents to sustain the momentum witnessed during the clean-up exercise, urging communities to continue embracing environmental stewardship while honouring their tax obligations.
As Kiambu pushes for improved service delivery and urban order, the administration maintains that collaboration between citizens and government will be key in driving transformation across the county.
