The County Government of Kiambu has commended residents, community groups, and stakeholders who participated in a recent countywide clean-up exercise aimed at improving environmental hygiene and strengthening civic responsibility.
In a statement issued under the leadership of Governor Kimani Wamatangi, the county expressed appreciation to all individuals and organisations who turned up for the initiative, describing the exercise as a strong demonstration of unity between wananchi and their government.
County officials noted that the clean-up was not merely about collecting waste but about reinforcing a shared commitment to environmental stewardship. According to the county leadership, such efforts help nurture a culture of responsibility, civic pride, and respect for public spaces.
“This initiative goes beyond clearing waste. It represents a conscious effort to build a culture where residents value and safeguard shared spaces,” the statement read.
The county emphasized that collaboration between citizens and the government remains key to achieving long-term environmental sustainability. Leaders noted that when communities take ownership of their surroundings, public spaces are better maintained and protected for future generations.
Environmental conservation, the county added, plays a direct role in safeguarding public health. Clean surroundings reduce the risk of disease outbreaks and contribute to overall community well-being. Officials further linked environmental cleanliness to economic growth, saying that well-maintained towns attract business opportunities, investors, and tourism.
Governor Wamatangi’s administration reiterated its commitment to working closely with residents to promote responsible waste management and environmental awareness across all sub-counties. The county also encouraged residents to maintain the momentum beyond organised clean-up days by adopting daily habits that support a cleaner and healthier Kiambu.
Residents who participated in the exercise described it as a positive step toward building a more organised and environmentally conscious county. Community groups, youth organisations, and local leaders were among those who took part in the activity.
The county government called on wananchi to sustain the spirit of unity and shared purpose demonstrated during the exercise, noting that long-term change requires consistent effort.
As Kiambu continues to implement development projects across various sectors, county leaders stressed that environmental responsibility will remain a top priority. They urged residents to see cleanliness not as a one-day activity but as a continuous commitment to community pride and public health.
