The Kiambu County Health Services Committee, chaired by Hon. Muhinja Kamau, has reviewed the draft Kiambu County Comprehensive Eye Health Policy and the Eye Health Strategic Plan 2026–2031, marking a major step towards strengthening county eye care services.
During the consultative session, the County Executive Committee (CEC) for Health, Dr. Elius Maina, alongside partners from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (Kikuyu PCEA) and Christian Blind Mission (CBM), presented the policy framework.
The plan aims to improve access to affordable, inclusive, and high-quality eye care, reduce avoidable blindness, enhance human resources, expand essential equipment and medicines, and implement community and school eye screening programs.
The policy aligns with Kenya’s Constitution, Universal Health Coverage agenda, and national eye health priorities.
Committee members are currently assessing practicality, resource allocation, and responsiveness before submitting recommendations to the County Assembly.
