Kiambu steps up climate action in Ndeiya, Karai wards

The Kiambu County Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen climate resilience and protect productive land through ongoing sustainable land management projects in Limuru and Kikuyu sub-counties.

The Director for Climate Change, Esther Kaguima, on Thursday led the County Climate Change Unit (CCU) on a supervisory visit to Ndeiya Ward in Limuru Sub-County and Karai Ward in Kikuyu Sub-County. The projects are being implemented under the Financing Locally Led Climate Action Programme (FLLOCA).

During the visit, the team inspected retention ditches constructed in the two wards to control surface runoff, a persistent challenge that has caused severe soil erosion and reduced agricultural productivity in the areas.

Officials also held consultative meetings with Project Management Committees (PMCs) to review progress, assess challenges, and agree on practical solutions to improve implementation.

The county said the projects, supported by the World Bank and implemented through the Department of Water, Environment, Energy and Natural Resources under CEC David Kuria, are aimed at improving land productivity while building community resilience to climate change, in line with Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s development agenda.
