Kiambu transforms bus parks with cabro, solar lighting and modern kiosks to boost safety and local businesses

Kiambu County has embarked on a major modernization of its bus parks, introducing a cleaner, safer and more organized environment for operators, traders and commuters.

The improvements include cabro paving to eliminate the muddy and uneven surfaces that have long made work difficult for matatu operators and small traders. With the new paving, the parks now offer a tidier, more professional atmosphere, especially during the rainy season.

The county has also installed solar lighting to enhance visibility and security, enabling longer working hours and reducing risks for passengers and businesses operating into the evening. In addition, modern kiosks have been put up to provide traders with more decent and structured business spaces.

So far, the transformation is visible in several key locations, including Makongeni in Thika, Kiambu Town, Banana in Kiambaa, Kwabira in Limuru and Githiga in Githunguri. County officials say more bus parks are in the pipeline, among them OJ in Ruiru, Kiganjo in Gatundu and Kimende in Lari.

The upgrades are part of a wider effort to improve public transport infrastructure and support local businesses across Kiambu. The county leadership says the goal is to ensure bus parks function not only as transport hubs, but also as clean, safe and dignified spaces that promote economic activity and community wellbeing.
