Kiambu Woman Rep Anne Muratha boosts livelihoods in Kikuyu Township with major NGAAF empowerment drive

Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Muratha on Friday led a major NGAAF empowerment programme in Kikuyu Township Ward, delivering financial support, economic tools and social assistance to community groups as part of her countywide livelihoods initiative.

Muratha said the exercise aims to strengthen households through practical support that enables families to earn, grow and remain self-reliant. Beneficiary groups received empowerment cheques, with local farmers, women groups and self-help organisations among the key recipients.

Several groups including Karai Children Advocacy, Ujamaa Njumbini CBO, Gikama Poultry Farmers CBO, Ondiri Upendo Women Group, Kidgarden Women Group and Codrad Self-Help Group received funding to boost their ongoing projects.

Two welfare groups, Railways Welfare Women Group and Thogoto Men Welfare, each received two tents and 100 chairs to support their income-generating activities.

Small businesses also benefitted from various tools including carwash machines, UV machines, shaving machines, chips fryers, hair dryers, market umbrellas, boda boda helmets, chafing dishes, market trolleys and juice extractors.

For social support, Muratha issued white canes to visually impaired residents, blankets to elderly beneficiaries, food supplies for attendees, and a full scholarship to a needy student.

She said empowerment must be “action and opportunity, not slogans,” adding that her office is committed to ensuring every ward in Kiambu receives targeted support.

Kikuyu Township MCA James Kamau joined the Woman Rep during the event, thanking NGAAF for prioritising grassroots livelihoods and renewing hope among families.
