Several community groups in Kiambu Constituency have received empowerment grants in a fresh push to strengthen grassroots livelihoods.
Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Muratha presided over the issuance of cheques to organised groups drawn from Riabai, Ndumberi, Kiambu Township and Ting’anga wards.
Among the beneficiaries were Riabai Wazee Self Help Group, Ndumberi Kirathimo Disabled SHG, Kiamumbi Overcomers PWD & Caregivers SHG, Ting’anga Persons With Disability Self Help Group, and Thathiini Smart Ladies Self Help Group.
In addition, Kamyonge Makenga Women Self Help Group received a tent and 100 chairs to support income-generating and community activities.
The funds were disbursed under the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
Muratha clarified that the money issued to the groups is a grant and not a loan, meaning beneficiaries are not required to refund it. She said the support is aimed at strengthening small community projects, supporting vulnerable populations including the elderly and persons living with disabilities, and expanding economic opportunities at the grassroots.
The Woman Representative encouraged the groups to invest the funds wisely in sustainable projects that will generate income and create long-term impact within their communities.
The empowerment initiative is part of ongoing efforts to channel national government resources directly to organised community groups to spur inclusive development in Kiambu County.
