Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has backed the Government-Owned Enterprises Bill, 2025, terming it a major reform milestone aimed at ending inefficiency and political patronage in State corporations.
Ichung’wah said the Bill will overhaul how government enterprises are managed by introducing merit-based appointments, professional management, and strict accountability measures. The reforms are designed to convert loss-making parastatals into self-sustaining, performance-driven institutions that deliver real value to Kenyans.
“For years, many State corporations have drained taxpayers’ money while delivering little value. This Bill seeks to change that by ensuring every shilling works for the people,” Ichung’wah said.
The Kikuyu MP noted that the Bill will promote transparency, reduce wastage, and empower public institutions to operate commercially while remaining accountable to citizens. He added that the shift to professional management will help restore public trust and ensure taxpayers see tangible benefits from government investments.
Ichung’wah further stated that the legislation aligns with the government’s broader economic transformation agenda, which prioritizes efficiency, sustainability, and accountability in all State operations.
