Kikuyu Ward has taken another step towards improved security and safer public spaces following the rollout of Phase Two of the Solar Street Lighting Programme.
The area MCA, Kamau James Boro, on Thursday confirmed the delivery of the first batch of solar lighting poles, marking the official start of the second phase of the project. The MCA said the initiative aligns with his constitutional mandate of oversight and representation, noting that enhanced lighting remains a priority for residents.
Under the current distribution, 15 poles have been allocated along the Kwa wa Muranga–Ndaire Cemetery stretch, while Mutaratara received 10 poles. Seven poles were delivered within the Kikuyu Sub-County Level 4 Hospital compound, with another 15 installed along the Undiri Gwa Hihu corridor from Matiru Junction to Gwa Thirimbu.
Additional installations include three poles along Muite Drive and five along Kiriti Road.
The solar street lighting programme is expected to enhance security, improve night-time mobility and stimulate economic activity across the ward, particularly for traders and residents who rely on safe movement after dark.
