Kimende Residents Torch Getaway Vehicle After Recovering Stolen Cattle

Kimende residents acted swiftly after recovering stolen cattle, burning the thieves’ getaway vehicle in a dramatic show of frustration. The intense scene unfolded Wednesday evening, highlighting the growing anger over livestock theft in the region.

The thieves raided a farm overnight, stealing several cows before speeding off. Alerted by the farm owner, locals mobilized and pursued them. Tracking the stolen animals, they followed footprints and tire marks deep into the outskirts of town.

After hours of searching, they found the cattle hidden near the Nairobi-Nakuru highway. The suspects had abandoned them, possibly fearing capture. Nearby, residents spotted a suspicious vehicle believed to be part of the heist. Enraged, they set it ablaze, leaving behind a charred wreck.

“We are tired of criminals stealing from hardworking farmers,” one resident declared. “This is a warning to anyone thinking they can take what isn’t theirs.”

While the thieves escaped, the burning vehicle sent a strong message. Livestock theft has plagued Kimende, with farmers losing thousands of shillings yearly. Many complain of weak police intervention, forcing them to act independently.

Authorities soon arrived at the scene. Officers urged residents to follow legal channels instead of destroying property. “We understand the frustration, but burning vehicles hinders investigations,” said a Kiambu County police official. “We will intensify patrols and ensure criminals face justice.”

Despite the police response, locals remain determined. The successful recovery of the cattle was a rare victory, celebrated by farmers. However, tensions persist as the community demands stronger security and harsher action against livestock thieves.
