The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), in partnership with the British High Commission and Trade Mark Africa, has launched a new E-Customs mobile application to simplify cargo clearance and enhance transparency at border points.
Speaking at the Busia One-Stop Border Point, British High Commission Chargé d’Affaires Dr. Ed Barnett hailed the app as a “game changer” for regional trade, noting it reduces delays, cuts costs, and strengthens trust in border systems.
KRA Commissioner for Customs Dr. Lilian Nyawanda said the platform targets small-scale traders and women entrepreneurs, speeding up tax declaration and payment while providing a simplified cargo-tracking module.
Trade Mark Africa Chair Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe emphasized the app eliminates paperwork and agents, saving traders roughly Ksh750 per transaction, and urged continuous training for users.
Women Cross-Border Traders SACCO National Chairperson Florence Atieno praised the app for improving tax compliance, mobile payments, and access to financing, while requesting a USSD version for traders without smartphones.
The app is expected to revolutionize cross-border trade, enhance revenue collection, and formalize informal trading networks across Kenya.
