The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has rolled out a new USSD service that allows taxpayers to access key services using basic mobile phones, reducing the need to visit KRA offices or rely on online platforms.
Accessible by dialling *222#, the service is designed to simplify tax compliance ahead of the upcoming filing season. Among the services available are PIN registration, turnover tax (TOT), monthly rental income (MRI), ETIMS, tax compliance certificates, customs, and other returns.
KRA said the system will also help Kenyans recover or check their KRA PIN a critical step in tax filing without requiring internet access or smartphones.
“Not every taxpayer has a smartphone, reliable internet, or the skills to navigate iTax or eTIMS,” the authority stated. “This USSD service ensures no Kenyan is left behind.”
The initiative comes as KRA prepares to validate income and expenses declared during tax filing, comparing them against sources such as eTIMS invoices, withholding tax data, and customs records.
