The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH), will launch a nationwide tax exemption vetting exercise for persons with disabilities on June 9, 2025. This initiative seeks to reduce financial strain and enhance inclusivity for qualified individuals.
Applicants must first submit their applications through the eCitizen platform. Next, they will present original Disability Medical Assessment Reports, valid Tax Compliance Certificates, and other necessary documents uploaded during registration.
Authorities have confirmed that individuals who did not receive an invitation SMS can still participate. However, their application status on eCitizen must indicate ‘Verification’ or ‘In Process’.
KRA and NCPWD will begin the vetting in Kisii County on June 9 before proceeding to Kisumu, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Mombasa, Garissa, Isiolo, Murang’a, Machakos, and Nairobi. Finally, they will conduct the last vetting session at the NCPWD Headquarters between June 30 and July 4.
The exercise will take place at various county hospitals, including:
- Kisii Referral Hospital
- Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital (Kisumu)
- Kakamega Referral Hospital
- Huruma Sub-county Hospital (Eldoret)
- Nakuru County Referral Hospital
- Tudor Sub-county Hospital (Mombasa)
- Garissa County Referral Hospital
- Isiolo County Referral Hospital
- Murang’a Level 5 County Hospital
- Machakos Level 5 Hospital.
At this stage, authorities have excluded parents and caregivers from the vetting process. However, they are developing specific regulations for caregivers and will release an official statement once finalized.
Successful applicants will receive official tax exemption status, allowing them to enjoy tax relief on income, purchases, and essential services.
