The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has accused the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of dragging its feet in implementing commitments made by President William Ruto to teachers, raising the prospect of industrial action.
Speaking in Naivasha on Thursday, KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori said the commission had failed to follow through on key pledges made during a State House meeting attended by over 10,000 teachers in September.
Central among the unfulfilled promises is the reduction of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) cycle from four years to two or three years.
Misori said TSC had also failed to seek parliamentary funding for the promotion of an additional 25,000 teachers and the conversion of 20,000 intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms, despite Treasury allocating Ksh5.4 billion for the exercise.
KUPPET further raised concerns over delayed affordable housing plans for teachers and warned that continued inaction could trigger union action.
