KWS bans feeding animals, off-road driving during free park entry on Saturday, September 27, World Tourism Day

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has issued a set of regulations to guide visitors enjoying free entry into national parks, reserves, and sanctuaries this Friday, September 27, as part of World Tourism Day celebrations.

In a public notice, KWS said the rules are designed to safeguard wildlife, preserve fragile ecosystems, and ensure visitor safety. The agency reminded Kenyans that all parks under its management are plastic-free zones.

“While we welcome Kenyans to enjoy free entry into our parks on World Tourism Day, we urge everyone to strictly observe the rules to protect both wildlife and visitors,” KWS stated.

Key guidelines include staying inside vehicles except at designated areas, avoiding off-road driving, keeping noise levels low, and observing a maximum speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour. Visitors are also required to maintain at least a 20-metre distance from wild animals and must not feed them under any circumstances.

Entry into parks will close at 6:00 p.m. unless prior arrangements for overnight camping have been made. Night game drives will only be allowed with approval and at an extra fee.

The agency further urged respect for cultural heritage, cautioning against photographing local communities without consent and advising modest dress during visits.

KWS emphasized that the initiative not only celebrates tourism but also highlights Kenya’s commitment to conservation, with the rules aimed at balancing visitor enjoyment with environmental protection.
