Leaders urge youth to end protests, call for calm and focus on national development

Leaders have appealed to young people across the country to suspend protests and allow the government to concentrate on economic recovery and development programs.

The call was made during the burial of Samuel Gatama, a respected community elder and former chairman of the Gatundu Water and Sewerage Company, held in Gitare village, Gatundu South.

Speaking at the event, Ruiru MP Simon King’ara led fellow leaders in stressing that demonstrations had slowed socio-economic progress and urged for peace to give the government room to deliver on its promises.

However, opposition leaders, led by Sovinga Wa Bibiana, raised concerns about corruption, citing frequent State House visits as potential loopholes for graft. They warned that unchecked corruption could undermine the same development agenda leaders were calling to protect.

Gatama was remembered for his integrity, leadership, and dedication to improving water and sanitation services in his community.
