Over 12,000 Students to Benefit as Limuru Launches School Feeding Program

More than 12,000 students from 70 public primary schools in Limuru will benefit from a new feeding program launched today at Kamandura Primary School. The initiative, spearheaded by Limuru MP Eng John Kiragu, aims to address food insecurity and improve learning outcomes for children in the region.

The program will provide subsidized meals to students at a cost of 15 Kenyan shillings per day, utilizing “tap-to-eat” technology for efficient distribution. However, recognizing the needs of some students, the program will offer free meals to 10% of the student population in each participating school, prioritizing those most in need.

“We can all agree that no child deserves to learn on an empty stomach,” said MP Kiragu. “Therefore, let’s feed the future, and we will realize a significant rise in academic achievement and improvement in the general well-being of our children.”

MP Kiragu further highlighted his commitment to the program’s long-term sustainability. “In my own capacity, I am also looking for more donors who will sponsor the program so that the charges may drop with time,” he stated.

The Limuru Feeding Program is fully funded by the Limuru NG-CDF (National Government Constituency Development Fund) and is situated at Kamandura Primary School in Limuru Central Ward. The official launch ceremony today included the unveiling of the program’s “Mega Kitchen” at the school, which will prepare meals for distribution to participating schools. The program is scheduled to begin next term.

Several dignitaries were present at the ceremony, including Hon. Kimani Ichungwa (Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP), Hon. Anne Wamuratha (Kiambu County Women Rep), and other leaders from the region. This program signifies a significant commitment by Limuru County to invest in the future of its young generation by ensuring their well-being and access to quality education.
