Residents of Kihingo Village in Limuru Constituency have called on the Kiambu County government to secure, clear, and manage a long-neglected cemetery near their homes.
Led by Kihingo Community Welfare Association Chairman Njenga Waiganjo, the residents raised concerns over people burying loved ones in shallow graves without following public health regulations, posing serious risks of disease contamination.
Waiganjo also highlighted reports of unknown individuals accessing the cemetery at night, mostly burying children, amid rising cases of missing persons in the area.
Community member Jane Wairimu Wainaina urged the county government to hand over the facility to residents as trustees. She said local management would ensure proper grave digging procedures, control cemetery activities, and provide a safer, more organized environment for the community.
Residents hope the county government will act swiftly to prevent further misuse and safeguard public health.
