Meru County benchmarks Murang’a Youth Service program, learning recruitment, vocational training, business start-ups, and community development strategies

Meru County officials visited Murang’a County on a benchmarking tour to learn from the Murang’a Youth Service (MYS) Program.

The delegation, hosted by the Murang’a County Government and Department of Sports, toured ongoing projects, including town cleaning by MYS Cohort 7, youth-led initiatives completed through county-sponsored vocational training, and NITA Grade 3 examinations for Cohort 6 at Kangema Vocational Training Centre.

The visitors also met Murang’a County Secretary Dr. Newton Mwangi, receiving insights on recruitment and program policies. Since its inception, the MYS Program has enrolled seven cohorts, benefiting over 5,000 youths. Graduates receive KSh 15,000 start-up capital and a one-year tax exemption to support business growth.

Officials from both counties highlighted the value of youth empowerment, skills development, and inter-county learning in strengthening programs that drive employment and entrepreneurship.
