Mount Kenya University urges youth to harness talents for jobs and growth as Varsity donates sports bus and equipment

Young people, especially those in universities and colleges, have been urged to take their talents seriously as a potential source of income and empowerment.

Speaking at Mount Kenya University (MKU) during the handover of sports equipment and a new bus to support student teams, Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi said the institution is committed to nurturing both academic excellence and talent development.

Prof. Jaganyi noted that several MKU students have successfully joined the military and other professions through talents nurtured at the university. “Our students have continued to win trophies locally and internationally. With consistency, their hard work and discipline will pay off,” he said.

Dr. Felix Kiruthu, Chairperson of the Students’ Welfare Committee Council, echoed the sentiment, urging students to invest in their abilities as a shield against unemployment and harmful behaviors. “Your talent can open doors and sustain you long after graduation,” he advised.

Students led by Javan Kiplimo and Cynthia Waweru expressed gratitude to MKU for its continued investment in sports, saying the donation will ease travel and boost morale during inter-university competitions.

They appealed to local leaders and government agencies to extend similar support to grassroots talent, especially among disadvantaged youth, noting that access to training and scholarships can transform lives and inspire others to focus on growth and excellence.
