Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has demanded urgent intervention from the Kiambu County Government after residents of Komothai and Ngewa wards went for three weeks without water.
The MP revealed that the water shortage has been caused by a disconnection by Athi Water Services over an unpaid bill of more than Ksh200 million owed by Githunguri Water Services.
Wamuchomba expressed concern that residents have been forced to fetch water from polluted rivers, exposing them to serious health risks despite faithfully paying their water bills and county levies.
“As a resident of Komothai, I join my neighbours in demanding accountability. People cannot be paying levies and living without clean water,” she said.
The lawmaker recalled personally sourcing water pipes in 2021 to support the area’s supply system and handing them to Githunguri Water Services, accusing the authorities of neglecting basic service delivery.
Wamuchomba further questioned why the county government has not provided emergency solutions, reminding Governor Kimani Wamatangi of his past campaign promises to address water challenges in the region.
She warned that residents may be forced to withhold payment of county levies if the crisis continues, insisting that access to clean water is a basic right that must be prioritized.
