Kiambu Town Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has stepped up efforts to improve learning conditions at Mungai Chengecha Primary School through the construction of additional classrooms.
The ongoing project has already seen the completion of four new classrooms, with two more currently under construction, bringing the total number of new learning spaces to six once complete.
According to the MP, the initiative is part of a broader plan to address overcrowding in public schools within the constituency, a challenge that has affected both teaching and learning outcomes for years.
“We are committed to creating a conducive environment where our pupils can learn comfortably and perform better,” Waithaka said.
The project also includes the installation of tiles in the two classrooms currently under construction, a move aimed at enhancing durability while improving the overall learning environment for pupils and teachers.
Education stakeholders in the area have welcomed the development, noting that congestion in classrooms has long been a concern, with some classes accommodating more learners than recommended.
Teachers say the additional classrooms will help reduce pressure on existing facilities, allowing for better class management and improved interaction between teachers and pupils.
Parents have also expressed optimism that the improved infrastructure will positively impact academic performance and overall learner wellbeing.
The expansion comes at a time when the government continues to push for improved infrastructure in schools to support the growing number of learners, particularly with the transition and progression within the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Waithaka noted that investing in school infrastructure remains a key priority, as it directly contributes to better educational outcomes and supports the long-term development of the community.
He added that such projects are essential in ensuring that learners are provided with adequate space, proper facilities and a safe environment that supports both academic and personal growth.
Once completed, the new classrooms are expected to significantly ease congestion at Mungai Chengecha Primary School, offering learners a more comfortable and organised setting.
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting education projects across Kiambu Town Constituency, noting that empowering learners through better facilities is a critical step towards building a stronger future.
