Murang’a County has reported strong progress in its flagship Inua Mkulima program after completing the verification of the second cohort and preparing to onboard thousands of additional farmers ahead of the next subsidy disbursement.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata said the data analysis exercise marked another major step toward strengthening the county’s digital subsidy system and ensuring only eligible farmers benefit. He confirmed that 473 complaints were reviewed, with successful cases set to receive e-wallet reloads by Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Affected farmers will be notified via SMS once their balances are updated.
The governor noted that while the window for lodging cohort two complaints has closed, the county will continue handling issues such as lost or changed phone numbers.
A total of 6,111 farmers from aggregators and 1,535 from the Murang’a County Creameries Union (MCCU) were successfully verified and will be included in the next disbursement scheduled for January 16, 2026. To promote transparency, the county will share lists of approved and rejected MCCU farmers with union officials within a week.
Farmers whose groups failed to meet data requirements have been asked to resubmit properly formatted information within seven days for reconsideration.
The county has also finalized sorting the last batch of uncollected Inua Mkulima cards, which will be distributed to aggregators by December 1, allowing farmers who missed earlier collection dates to retrieve them at designated centres.
Governor Kang’ata further warned county-registered merchants against levying illegal charges or inflating prices during subsidy transactions. One merchant in Ithanga is already under investigation for alleged exploitation.
“We will not allow anyone to take advantage of our farmers. Anyone caught overcharging will face the full force of the law,” he said.
Kang’ata emphasized that the program is central to his administration’s commitment to uplift agricultural households, digitize payments and ensure accountability across the value chain.
