Murang’a County partners with ICPAK to strengthen financial governance, boost transparency, and enhance professional development for staff and accountants

Murang’a County has partnered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) in a strategic move to strengthen public finance management, enhance transparency, and improve service delivery across the county.

The partnership was formalized yesterday during a signing ceremony attended by Murang’a County CEC for Finance and Economic Planning, Prof. Kiarie Mwaura, alongside ICPAK Vice Chairman FCPA Benard Amukah and CEO Dr. Grace Kamau. Also present were leaders from ICPAK’s Mt. Kenya branch and the Institute’s Secretariat.

Prof. Mwaura hailed the collaboration as a milestone, emphasizing that it will play a critical role in improving financial governance, accountability, and efficiency across county departments.

Key areas of focus under the MoU include capacity building for county staff, the introduction of zero-fault audit strategies, technical support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and internship opportunities for aspiring accountants.

FCPA Amukah and Dr. Kamau reaffirmed ICPAK’s commitment to supporting counties through impactful reforms and professional development initiatives, noting that the partnership will not only enhance operational standards but also prepare the next generation of finance professionals.

The MoU reflects a growing trend among Kenyan counties to collaborate with professional bodies in order to modernize public financial systems, ensure accountability, and strengthen service delivery for residents.
