Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that investigators have identified persons of interest in the murder of prominent Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was gunned down along Magadi Road on Tuesday evening.
Speaking in Migori County on Thursday, Murkomen said detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are interrogating individuals linked to the killing, with more suspects expected to be pursued. He commended eyewitnesses who have already volunteered crucial information.
“This is a very sad thing that has happened in our country… Mbobu was my teacher and my friend,” Murkomen said, describing the late lawyer as eloquent, hardworking, and knowledgeable.
Preliminary investigations indicate Mbobu was shot five times in the head by unknown gunmen while driving home from meetings in Nairobi’s CBD. Detectives recovered three spent cartridges from the scene. A post-mortem examination is scheduled at Lee Funeral Home, led by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor.
