Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has launched a major crackdown in Eastleigh targeting illegal dumping and hawkers obstructing streets.
The operation, conducted along Athumani Kipanga Street, popularly known as Jam Street, saw garbage cleared from clogged drainage channels and several hawkers arrested for operating without authorisation or dumping waste.
Mosiria directed business owners to maintain cleanliness within a 10-meter radius of their premises, warning that the responsibility was non-negotiable. He further told hawkers to carry their garbage home instead of leaving it on the streets.
“Step by step, we are committed to restoring environmental order in Eastleigh,” he said, adding that blocked streets had endangered lives by obstructing ambulances and fire engines.
The Chief Officer emphasised that the cleanup would be a continuous programme, urging residents and traders to cooperate in keeping Eastleigh clean and safe.
