National Government donates nine milk coolers to Nyandarua County farmers in drive to boost dairy production and earnings

Dairy farmers in Nyandarua County have received a major boost after the national government distributed nine milk coolers to enhance milk storage, reduce wastage, and improve market access.

Speaking during the issuance event, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, said the coolers with a combined capacity of 32,000 litres will strengthen the county’s dairy value chain by ensuring milk is well preserved before transportation.

Mueke explained that the initiative is part of the government’s plan to empower dairy farmers and cooperative societies under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which prioritizes agriculture as a key driver of rural economic growth.

“We are working closely with counties to ensure no milk goes to waste. Proper storage allows farmers to sell collectively, negotiate better prices, and access both local and international markets,” said Mueke.

The PS also encouraged farmers to adopt improved livestock management and breeding practices to boost productivity and quality.

In addition, Mueke oversaw the distribution of 3,000 chicks to various farmer groups in Nyandarua as part of ongoing efforts to diversify agricultural income sources and strengthen food security in the region.

The dairy industry remains one of Nyandarua’s key economic pillars, and the government says such interventions are vital to transforming smallholder farming into a sustainable and profitable venture.
