The National Police Service has announced a sweeping nationwide crackdown targeting motorists flouting traffic rules as millions of Kenyans gear up for the festive-season rush.
Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said officers have been deployed across major highways to curb cases of overspeeding, drunk driving, dangerous overtaking and failure to meet PSV requirements. He noted that dozens of compliance checkpoints have already been set up to ensure all vehicles undergo thorough inspection.
Nyaga urged motorists to observe speed limits, service their vehicles and ensure passengers fasten seatbelts at all times. Public service operators were reminded to strictly adhere to set capacities and safety regulations.
He added that the police will work closely with the National Transport and Safety Authority to maintain high levels of compliance and improve emergency response.
Beyond road safety, the NPS has rolled out enhanced security measures for the holiday period. Police units will carry out intensified patrols in towns, estates, shopping centres, places of worship, sporting venues and major transport terminals.
Nyaga said the multi-agency operation is designed to manage the increased movement of people and goods while deterring criminal activity across all counties.
