Residents of Kamatuto Estate in Njiru, Kasarani Constituency, have honoured the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga by naming a local road after him.
The community came together on Sunday to unveil a new signpost reading Raila Odinga Road, mounted in the heart of the estate in a ceremony led by local leaders, boda boda riders, and residents.
According to Kamatuto Residents’ Association chairperson, the decision was inspired by Raila’s legacy as a national leader and former Roads Minister.
“I am the chairman of Kamatuto, Njiru, and we are here today as residents and the Njiru office to remember Baba. We have decided to have the Raila Odinga Road here in Kamatuto,” he said.
He added that the initiative was also a message to county leaders, including Governor Johnson Sakaja and Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri, to support local development.
“By doing this, we want to tell Kenyans and even our leaders that we now have a road that honours Raila here,” he stated.
The three-kilometre road runs from Kangundo Road through Kamatuto Estate and links the area to Mwiki. However, it remains poorly maintained, with residents calling on the Nairobi County Government to prioritise its rehabilitation.
They believe upgrading the road would open up the area’s economic potential by improving connectivity and easing transport challenges within Kasarani.
This is not the first road to bear Raila Odinga’s name. In 2021, Mbagathi Way was officially renamed Raila Odinga Way to recognise his role in advancing Kenya’s democratic reforms.
Raila, who passed away on October 15, 2025, served as Kenya’s second Prime Minister and remained one of the country’s most influential political figures.
Residents say naming the road after him is their way of keeping his memory alive and celebrating a leader who, they believe, fought tirelessly for the ordinary Kenyan.

You really make it seem so easy along with your presentation but I in finding this matter to be really one thing which I feel I’d by no means understand. It seems too complicated and extremely extensive for me. I’m taking a look forward in your next submit, I will attempt to get the cling of it!
