NTSA rolls out child road safety campaign in Nanyuki ahead of Christmas travel surge

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched a road safety sensitisation campaign targeting children in Nanyuki Town as the country heads into the busy Christmas travel period.

The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the traffic department, aims to equip school-going children with basic road safety knowledge, recognising them as among the most vulnerable road users.

Nanyuki Police Base Commander Kelvin Sauroki said the exercise focused on teaching children how to safely use roads, particularly in areas with fast-moving traffic.

He noted that many children in the town rely on bicycles, increasing their exposure to road risks, and urged parents to ensure young cyclists follow traffic rules and use safety gear.

The campaign was supported by Binti Mwangaza, a local community organisation, and a British Army officer, who distributed reflector jackets to enhance visibility.

Organisers said the programme will continue in schools when learning resumes next term.
