NTSA unveils portal for motorists to track number plate and driving license applications

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has rolled out a new digital service to help Kenyans confirm the status of their driving license and number plate applications before collection.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, the Authority urged motorists to log into the NTSA portal through the eCitizen platform, navigate to the service status section, enter their details, and submit for instant feedback.

Applicants for smart driving licenses must use their National ID number, while those seeking number plates are required to input their vehicle registration number.

NTSA explained that once details are submitted, the query is automatically forwarded to the applicant’s respective collection center as a formal complaint for follow-up.

“Click on servicestatus.ntsa.go.ke, share your details and submit; this will go directly to your collection center as a complaint,” the Authority stated.

The move follows public concern over delays in processing smart licenses and number plates, with motorists demanding clarity on timelines.

This announcement also comes after NTSA’s directive to both national and county government entities to register their vehicles and switch to the new reflective number plates by August 29. Any government vehicle not compliant risks impoundment during a nationwide enforcement operation.

NTSA says the changes are part of wider efforts to curb vehicle theft and related crimes. The agency has also upgraded its online portal to handle bulk applications and streamline processes, including registration and reflective number plate applications.

Government agencies applying for reflective number plates must create an e-Agent account on the portal and submit an official request letter to NTSA.
